This book was the dream of longtime superintendent Lynne Kovash, who died in 2019 before the book project got rolling, but Moorhead teacher and historian Brian Cole, along with a team of volunteers, went through yearbooks, newspapers and museum documents to select the best pictures and stories, scanning them all for the new book.
The book is not only a look at Moorhead Area Public Schools' first 150 years. It also documents the city's dramatic growth from a tiny boom town, through the 1960s and the many "lasts" before the new high school goes up. Decades of learning and change, now preserved in the perfect conversation piece.
"We have about 80 different categories, each decade that we're wanting to hit on; elementary life, what it was like in the community, hangouts. Totaling 300 pages, the book has 2,000 photos, and every Moorhead graduate is listed — nearly 30,000 people." .
